NAD+: the latest trend in skin care and health. Perhaps you follow developments in healthy aging closely and have recently read or heard something about NAD+. A hype that was suddenly there, claiming to turn back time and perhaps helped a bit by Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber taking an infusion of NAD+ in a TV episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. “I’ll take NAD+ for the rest of my life and always stay young,” Bieber told viewers afterward.

NAD+

NAD+ is more than just TV star hype or a buzzword in social media. Its full name is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and it is an essential coenzyme found in truly every cell in your body. NAD+’s main job is to generate energy in your cells. In addition, NAD+ regulates cell functions and is able to repair DNA. In other words, if you have a high NAD+ level in your body, it means you have a lot of cell energy and your cells are functioning optimally. It also means that your body can repair itself faster. After all, that also requires energy. This keeps your organs, including your skin (remember… your skin is your largest organ) in top condition. Again, we publish an article with a lot of depth for people who want more in-depth information about the connection between health, vitality and skin. It’s a long article with the full energy put into it. And when you talk about energy, NAD+ is indispensable. Off we go…

A new kind of health: cellular health

Talk about peak fitness… In a way, the focus on NAD+ has created a new kind of health. Already had physical health and mental health, now cellular health is added. A form of health that requires an entirely unique approach. Right yes … at the cellular level.

And while you probably haven’t thought too much about the health of your cells until now, they deserve your full attention. After all, you have about 36 trillion of them. In case you now think a cell is the smallest particle in your body … think again!

A cell is a system unto itself, with an important task for the mitochondria

You can think of a cell as a city, a mini-ecosystem, with thousands of even smaller particles in each cell – we call them “organelles” – each with its own function. One particular kind of organelle is the mythochondrion whose special job is to generate the energy the cell needs to function. Think of it as the city’s power plant. Depending on a cell’s function, it contains more or fewer mitochondria. You can imagine that your muscle cells need much more energy than your skin cells. And not only that: some people (like me) also need more energy than others. To be continued…

Back to mitochondria

Those tiny power plants in your cells also need maintenance. And that’s precisely where NAD+ comes into play again. Namely, NAD+ is capable of strengthening the mitochondria. There is only one problem…

Every 20 years, the NAD level in your body halves

Although your body naturally produces NAD+, as with so many things, the amount of NAD in your body decreases as you age. The rule of thumb here is that your NAD+ level halves every 20 years from birth. So by age 40, you have only 25% of your innate NAD+ level left. The result: less energy production in your cells and less cell repair. This leads to the much-hyped “symptoms of old age,” such as wrinkles, less energy and brain fog. So: it’s really not just the transition that causes your brain to short circuit….

With studies showing the health benefits of NAD+ (the plus indicates the “pure” form of NAD)(read them at this link), it’s easy to see why taking NAD+ supplements sounds appealing. But can you really turn back time with NAD+ supplements? In this article, I answer that question and also discuss my favorite NAD+ supplement with you.

Those same studies show that it is possible to bring your NAD+ levels back to a – let’s say “youthful” level – and thus rejuvenate the cells. In this way, it is possible to combat aging and age-related diseases.

How do you boost your NAD+ levels?

For starters. Avoid things that lower your NAD+ levels, such as unhealthy foods, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and sun exposure. Choose foods that contain amino acids, such as broccoli and cabbage. Amino acids are precursors to NAD+. High-intensity training (HIIT) at the gym will boost your NAD+ levels. In fact, research has shown that adults who exercise intensively on a regular basis have NAD+ levels comparable to young adults(read the study at this link)

NAD+ supplements

In addition to a healthy lifestyle, supplements give you the best boost to your NAD+ levels. Clinical studies with mice in this area are promising. Although large-scale clinical studies with humans have not yet been conducted, there are promising studies that suggest NAD+ supplements have a wide variety of health benefits. From more energy, to sleeping better(read more here) and waking up more rested. From stronger nails to shinier hair. And last but not least, more collagen in your skin.

But Ahmet, surely you can just take collagen instead of NAD+!

That’s right. The difference is in where in the process you address the problem. If you want to give your skin a boost, you have to make sure that the skin gets healthy again at the cellular level. And that’s exactly what NAD+ does. Healthy cells are able to produce collagen on their own (through the fibroblasts), so you don’t need to replenish your collagen with supplements as much, if at all.

Infusion or pills?

NAD+ supplementation can be done in several ways. Research shows that an infusion is the most effective. It is also expensive (not everyone has the budget of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber) and, in addition, administering the infusion takes an hour all together. Faster and much more affordable is to swallow supplements containing NAD+, such as SynTernals NRgize+.

There is a little problem, though…

You cannot take pure NAD+ orally. This is because NAD+ is an unstable molecule that is broken down in your digestive system even before the molecule reaches your bloodstream. Never mind, therefore, that the molecule arrives at its final destination, at your cells. For this reason, most NAD+ pills contain so-called “precursors” of NAD+, such as nicotinamide riboside (NR) or nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN). Your cells then convert these precursors into NAD+ themselves.

Supercharge your cells with SynTernals NRgize+

NRgize+ was developed by Terri Vinson Jones, biological scientist and founder of SynTernals. Terri is also the mastermind behind the Australian skin care brand Synergy Skin. NRgize+ claims (and I can now tell you from personal experience that this claim is absolutely fulfilled) that it gives more energy, improves your metabolism and nutrient absorption, supports your nervous system and protects and keeps your cells healthy. And that also benefits your skin. For that matter, so does the scale, because with more energy and more exercise, you lose excess fluid and fat.

SynTernals NRgize+ is a potent blend of nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide (N), both precursors to NAD+. The blend also includes resveratrol and antioxidants. Terri explains: “I developed NRgize+ to provide an innovative combination of ingredients that will keep your cellular health optimal from the inside out, for as long as possible. Cell health is key to the health of your entire body and your vitality. If individual cells are healthy, so are your organs and body systems.”

NRgize+ is vegan, gluten-free and contains no traces of nuts. This makes this supercharger of your cells also suitable for people with dietary restrictions or certain religious standards. You use NRgize+ twice a day, one capsule at a time. And really, it will make you happy!
