Sleeping Beauty

Whether Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood actually existed or not I am not going to write about, but there is a grain of truth in the story of Sleeping Beauty. How did I come up with that? Not me, but science has proven that good sleep makes you more beautiful. Good quality sleep makes you more vital, younger and gives your skin a radiant glow. Really…

Sleeping Beauty

So an explanation of how to become more beautiful from good quality sleep starts not in your bed but in the bathroom. I like to explain, and forewarned is forearmed: it’s not about the amount of sleep, but its quality. And that is precisely what we can influence these days. Not with pills, but with skincare products from Dr. K!

Melatonin

You may have heard of it: disrupted sleep rhythms due to travel or changing work hours. Jetlags, fatigue and eventually completely out of your rhythm. Not fun. By now, many people already know their way to the drugstore or maybe your doctor has already told you about melatonin: the substance that makes it easier to fall asleep and sleep through the night. Easy if you want your old rhythm back after a long flight or changing shifts. Melatonin must be taken as a supplement and topical use has no effect on sleep or the skin. Meanwhile, science has already substantiated that a good night’s sleep, on the other hand, does affect your skin. Cell damage is minimized, the skin recovers better and produces better quality collagen. That alone sounds like a fairy tale. But how do you get something you need to ingest internally into a skincare product?

Sleeping Beauty

In the spirit of “ye who seek shall find”, South African Dr. Juanita Kilian went on an investigation and succeeded in finding an extract from a wonder plant and applying it in the Dr. K. skin care products. Thus, a workaround was devised for becoming beautiful while sleeping, using the Cape Jasmine (Gardenia Jasminoides). Not far from home, then…

Sleeping Beauty

Cape Jasmine is able to bind like the original melatonin to the melanin receptors (protrusions of your natural pigment cells that everyone has except albinos). The next step is that this extract is able to naturally induce the skin to produce melatonin. Result? A better quality night’s sleep, thus a radiant skin!

By now, skincare fanatics have already realized that the very best results come from repeated professional treatments and continuing to stimulate the skin with various actives. And with that, I want to make it clear that Cape Jasmine along with another plant substance stimulate each other for an even better effect: Canabis Sativa. Free of THC and CBD, this extract, according to PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Web of Science, reduces cell inflammation, thereby reducing skin problems such as skin aging, redness, pigmentation and acne. Multiple publications by these scientific platforms claim that specific organelles such as keratinocytes, fibroblasts, melanocytes and sebaceous glands improve in their functioning which you see in the mirror in the short term. Want to know more about Canabis Sativa? Then read here an earlier publication!

Prevent or cure?

With the knowledge we have today, we are often too late in preventing skin damage and, on the other hand, our lifestyle today with all the travel, image work and stress is often not very healthy either. According to Dr. K., preventing skin damage is just as important as repairing it and thus has developed a power duo to preventively protect the skin from all negative influences. Is your skin already damaged by all kinds of influences? Something has been developed for that too.
